FOREWORD

Here at Okaka we are excited to have our first Angus bull
sale. 17 bulls will be up for sale, 13 grown on the steep
hill country property in Taihape, and 4 Meadowslea bulls
bought as yearlings in spring 2020. We have some solid
bulls for mixed age cows and half a dozen bulls ideal for
heifer mating. This is only the beginning and we look
forward to providing balanced meaty Angus bulls from
steep hill that deliver a consistent line of moderate meaty
progeny on steep hills now and into the future.
Currently the herd is 80 registered cows, with half pure
New Zealand genetics. The base of the Okaka Stud
has been formed with the purchase of females from
the Waitawheta Stud of Alistair and Pat Sharpe, the
Meadowslea Stud of David Giddings and Red Oak Stud of
Richard Orr. Stud bulls are primarily selected from New
Zealand studs that are selecting in a similar way. We like to
see a group of bulls from a similar bloodline producing the
desired type. Ultrasound and DNA technology, including
i50k and sire trace, is used to help select stock also.
