INTRODUCTION

Andrew, Anna, Harriet & Georgie would like to extend a warm
welcome to everyone attending our Inaugural Yearling bull &
heifer sale.
Sudeley Genetics is a combination of Angus cattle and Maternal
& Terminal sheep genetics with the same breeding philosophy,
breeding a base of strong, even conformationally correct,
productive dams that are the foundation of any profitable sheep
and beef operation.

All breeding stock including a large commercial sheep operation
are run at Springvale, a 1000ha hill property on the Banks
Peninsula where we are based, and all youngstock are run on the
finishing unit at Irwell enabling them to be grown out to their
potential.
Our yearling catalogue is taken very seriously and has been
designed especially for Heifer and or Cow mating. In recent years
we have made a significant investment into Genomic technology
which I believe it is a game-changer for the beef industry.
Until Genomics, EBV’s have been derived by adding the sire &
dams EBV’s together and then halving them to give an average,
which in my opinion is very misleading as we all know that there
is going to be a huge variation in the offspring with any mating, ie:
animals get some traits from their sire and some other traits from
the dam just like two human siblings are never the exact same and
in reality some animals will perform like the dam and some will
perform more like the sire for each EBV trait.

However Genomics enables us to see via DNA what particular
EBV trait that animal has received from its sire or dam and
therefore we have a much more accurate prediction of their
performance and genetic potential.

Without Genomics EBV’s can change dramatically throughout
their lifetime, you may well find that the bull /heifer you purchased
as a yearling or 2yo has a quite different set of EBV’s as an older
sire/dam.

All Bulls and Heifers in this sale team have had their Genomics
analysed and Sire/Parental verified.
