Ariki Angus
John & Karin Jury
welcome you to their
Angus Dispersal Sale.
Ariki Angus Stud was established in 2011 and is run by John and Karin
Jury. In 2011, 12 heifers were purchased from Hillsborough Angus,
these form the base of the herd. Over the years, a few cows were
added from Gillimatong Angus, and recently a couple of Matauri
Angus heifers were purchased. Due to health reasons the stud
animals are now offered for sale.
The farm where the animals have been grazing is a hill country farm
at the back of the Okoki Valley, located 15km from State Highway 3
North of Urenui. A number of the animals have also been grazing at
a few other blocks.
The objective was to breed high quality Angus cattle that maximise
farmers’ profit using the latest genomic findings to enhance Estimated
Breeding Values (EBVs). We have aimed for progeny that will calve
easily, finish quickly and grade highly. We have remained focused on
producing animals that have a good phenotype, are docile and easy
to handle. Our calves are yard weaned. Over the years we have used
sound bulls with great EBVs.
HD50K and Breedplan have been used, which enabled us to select
more profitable cattle and increase the speed of genetic change. We
have used the Zoetis genotyping platform for all our heifers since
2015.
