P. 4
Welcome to the 2021
Stern Catalogue
It was encouraging to see stronger weaner prices this year in the face of
tightening feed conditions across the South Island east coast, just think
what would have happened if there was grass! We have purchased a few
calves ourselves this year and watched the market closer. It has been a
thrill to see how many of our clients are topping sales across the country,
from Blenheim to Castlerock. This reflects confidence in the underlying
beef market and more attention by purchasers to select calves that are
proven to grow on and meet market specs early.
This year there are three major new sires: Bubs Southern Charm has left deep powerful cattle,
Te mania 16452 who has bred more spring of rib in his sons and Te Mania 16463 who has put
more punch into the carcase traits. In addition there’s Mackenzie of Stern who bred numerous
stud bulls, including last years top priced $21,000 bull to Kayjay Angus, plus sons from Tangihau
H8 and Stern yearlings.
So there’s a good mix of exciting new blood and proven sires across the catalogue that will offer
good selection and value for money throughout.
This year we mark the passing of Alison. She lived and breathed angus
until the end. Together with Rob they enjoyed angus friends across the
country and overseas. They took Stern to record prices, importing and
exporting live bulls, semen and embryos. But we remember her simply as
mum, dedicated to family and Sterndale, the trees, buildings and farming.
Rest in peace. Alison Fraser 1932 - 2021
Once again I’d like to thank our team who have done a fantastic job bringing the bulls through
to sale. Donald’s enthusiasm is irrepressible and together with Robert they make a great team
that give us confidence for the future.
Finally I want to thank you, our clients, for your on going support of our program and to wish all
intending purchasers all the best for the sale
We look forward to seeing you on Thursday 24 June!
